We’ve known for a long time that Meta was developing a Twitter competitor, but now we have a firm idea of when it will be available. A list For an application called Threads has began to emerge It is estimated to be released on the iOS App Store on July 6. In May, there was a report that the microblogging service was nearing completion and could launch as soon as the end of June. While the late June launch didn’t exactly happen, the app may arrive at a time when Twitter users are more willing (and even eager) to try the alternative.
Twitter recently limited how many tweets an unverified account can read per day. In a post, Elon Musk announced that verified accounts — which translates to paid users — can read 6,000 posts per day, while unverified/non-paid users can only read 600 posts. “The website is taking steps to address excessive data scraping. [and] System manipulation.” A typical user can easily hit 600 posts, so those who don’t pay $8 to $11 a month for a blue check are locked out of their feeds as a result.
MetaThreads is described as “Instagram’s text-based conversational app.” Based on the screenshots posted on the list, users can keep their Instagram handle and follow the same accounts they follow on the photo-sharing site. That means users will have existing followers and circles in the new app, giving them an edge over other Twitter competitors. Users can choose the privacy of their posts and make them visible only to profiles they follow or accounts they refer to. They can feel, send and share other people’s posts by heart.
Earlier reports said Meta would be a decentralized service compatible with Twitter rival Mastodon, but it’s unclear if that’s still the case when it launches. Will know for sure in a few days.
